If and when amateur basketball is allowed to commence, players in the Visayas-Mindanao area have something to look forward to in the Pilipinas Vismin Super Cup.

A regional league organized by executive vice president, Vicente Guingona, along with league coordinators, Rocky Chan and Chelito Caro, the league aspires to give basketball players from Visayas and Mindanao regions a chance to showcase their skills.

According to Caro, teams don’t have to worry about travelling between islands since Visayas teams will only compete in the Visayas and vice versa. Teams from Sindangan, Zamboanga, Pagadian, Davao, Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, Mandaue, Cebu, Iloilo and Dumaguete have already expressed interest in participating in the league once the government allows contact sports to resume.

The league requires each team to have six homegrown players.

It will have two conferences —an all-Filipino and another one with a foreign player.

“This league will give players with Visayan and Mindanaon roots the opportunity to develop and be able to play in a professional league in the future,” said Guingona. (JNP)
