Coronavirus cases steadily climb by over 2,000 daily

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Friday, October 2, 2020, reported 2,611 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, bringing the Philippines case count to 316,678.

The agency also recorded 56 new mortalities, raising the death toll to 5,616, and 416 recoveries, which increased the total recoveries to 254,617.

Among the new cases were 1,084 from the National Capital Region (NCR), 202 from Cavite, 182 from Iloilo, 163 from Bulacan, and 132 from Rizal.

The capital also reported the highest number of deaths at 22, followed by Central Visayas and Calabarzon with seven each, and Central Luzon with six.

Globally, over 34 million people have been infected with Sars-CoV-2, which causes coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), according to Johns Hopkins University as of October 2. More than 1.02 million people had died.
