THE Embassy of Israel in the Philippines inaugurates Tuesday, October 6, the Honorary Consulate of the State of Israel for Mindanao in Davao City.

In a press statement, the embassy said this is among the results of the visit of President Rodrigo Duterte to Israel in September 2018.

Together with the launch of its Defense Attaché and an Economic and Trade Attaché office in Manila, the opening of an honorary consulate in Mindanao is seen "to strengthen further the historic and friendly relations between Israel and the Philippines."

"It will also enhance the cooperation between the two countries in many areas such as overseas Filipino workers, development assistance, agriculture, health, innovation, counterterrorism strategies, trade, and economy, among others," the embassy added.

The embassy will also install Jorge Marquez as the Honorary Consul for Mindanao. Marquez is currently the president of New World Travel Corporation, a travel organization in Davao City since 1994. He is also the president of VIP Manpower Services Inc. and Intrex Philippines Inc.

Marquez also sits as chairman of the Gadol Foundation Inc., a family foundation registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The foundation aims to raise funds and provide welfare, medical, educational, and other assistance to identified beneficiaries within the Philippines.

Based on the information provided by the embassy, Marquez has been advocating for the participation of the Philippines in the AgriTech Israel since 2012.

Agritech Israel is an annual agricultural exhibition and conference "aimed at supplying the world with cutting-edge agriculture solutions."

He is also promoting Visit Israel, a guided tour of the country with activities ranging from cultural, religious, archeological, historical, and nature adventure, among others.
