Goho: The value of anxiety

PERHAPS all of humanity go through their lives harboring some type of unrest, disharmony and are ridden by anxiety. Although some may be stubborn to admit, but this is an inevitable reality of life no one can deny as long as we are awake and conscious. Truly, there are many uncertainties that cannot be answered.

Most times, society in general view anxiety lightly as a problem that ought to be quickly resolved without a clear dive of underlying roots as we course through the many routines of life. Most would choose to get by and mask these through indulging in many distractive hedonistic pleasures such as alcohol, sex or ego boosting and self-serving escapist activities on the surface. Or even seemingly noble hobbies in the eyes of others which actually serve as a compensatory lubricant such as golf, cycling, or collecting pets.

Anxiety disorders are certainly one of the most common reasons why a person decides to consult with mental health professionals, who usually give short term and ineffective solutions that have minimal impact. There is usually a prescription to suppress deep-seated darkness and opt for a quick fix which ultimately does not lead to one's yearning for substance and value.

Anxiety must not be immediately be viewed in such a negative light, as these can be a potential for eye-opening possibilities as it enhances one's sense of awareness, consciousness and may even lead us to ask the deeper and more meaningful questions. It may even give room for personal growth when used rightly and objectively.

Ultimately, anxiety is an inescapable unhappiness in life that we all endure. But it is a cornerstone to opening up possibilities, experiences and risks to test our true and innate capabilities.

Although some people may be more susceptible and sensitive to anxiety, it undoubtedly affects everyone, one way or another, as we share this in our humanity. But what is ultimately a grave threat is how it may lead to depression, which is stagnation and defeat in life, highly detrimental and unfortunate.

There are many complexities in our lives beyond self-indulgence which is why we are drawn to higher causes and responsibilities. Which is why we are also drawn to seeking higher spiritual matters that may lead us everlasting freedom and that may essentially be found once we discover faith and ultimate truth.
