Villaflor: A new Premiership order?

WHAT in the world is going on with the English Premier League?

If Leicester City sitting on top of the table momentarily last month wasn’t surprising enough, last weekend’s results are, for lack of a better word, bizarre.

First, in what should have been a competitive match, Tottenham Hotspur thrashed Mancester United 6-1 at no less than Old Trafford last Sunday, Oct. 4.

United started strong with a goal from the penalty spot in the second minute, but Spurs equalized two minutes later. It was all downhill from there for the home squad as they were reduced to 10 men in the 28th.

Heung-Min Son’s surprise inclusion amid doubts surrounding his hamstring injury apparently caught United off guard. Son scored two goals: in the seventh minute to put his team up front and on the 37th for an insurmountable 4-1 lead.

The Spurs win gave them seven points total, which is good enough for sixth place.

And United? Don’t look now but they’re languishing at 16th place, just two spots from the relegation zone.

If there’s any consolation for the Red Devils, Manchester City could only draw 1-1 with Leeds United, putting their hometown rivals well within reach at 14th place.

Leeds, meanwhile, sits at a decent eighth place just behind Chelsea, which disposed of Crystal Palace 4-0. To cap an unpredictable weekend, Liverpool provided the biggest shocker, losing 7-2 to Aston Villa.

There were no red cards, not even a yellow, in this match, and the Reds were simply outplayed away at Villa Park.

The loss shoves them out of the top four, just ahead of Spurs and behind Arsenal, which edged Sheffield United 2-1.

The top three teams of the Premiership table? Leicester City, Aston Villa and Everton.

From the top spot, Leicester slipped to third after losing 3-0 at home to West Ham United, while Everton, now with 12 points, claimed pole position following a 4-2 home win over Brighton.

But who would have thought that even at this early stage the Red Devils, City, the Blues, Spurs, the Reds and the Gunners would be chasing the likes of the Toffees, the Foxes and the Lions?
