LIVESTOCK breeders and paravets in the Second District of Negros Occidental have gained boost through various veterinary projects and support amounting to P1.5 million distributed by the Provincial Government.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, along with Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena, led the turnover of breeder piglets to livestock breeders of Manapla, Cadiz City and Sagay City at the town's Municipal Hall grounds on Tuesday, October 6.

Decena said the project, which is under the Provincial Animal Genetic Improvement Program (Pagip), will benefit 90 livestock raisers in three localities and 30 members of the Alliance of Hog Raisers Associations in Negros Occidental (Ahrano).

The Provincial Government, through the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), also distributed veterinary drugs, supplies and biologics, as well as financial assistance to 200 paravets totaling to P366,000.

"There's a bright future for pig market in Luzon due to African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak," the provincial veterinarian pointed out.

He added that "raisers must support the effort of the Provincial Government in maintaining our ASF-free status while they continue their swine business."

Also present during the turnover were Second District Board Member Sixto Guanzon, Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr., Manapla Mayor Manuel Escalante III, other local officials and Ahrano members.

Raisers from other districts have earlier availed themselves of the program positioned to augment their livelihood.

For their part, the beneficiaries thanked the Provincial Government for the assistance seen to help raisers secure their income amid the ongoing global pandemic.
