PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has appointed another Assistant Secretary for the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV).

Former number one barangay councilor Girlie Enriquez Veloso was appointed by Duterte as one of the Assistant Secretaries of OPAV.

The formal appointment was released last Monday, October 5.

She will join Assistant Secretary Anthony Gerard "Jonji" Gonzales and Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Secretary Michael Lloyd Dino in the goal of bringing Malacañang closer to the Visayas.

"It is my greatest honor and privilege to be trusted by the Office of the President in my new role as Assistant Secretary. I feel elated to embark to serve the nation by serving the Presidency," said Asec. Veloso.

Asec. Veloso started working in OPAV way back in 2018 where she focused on establishing Malasakit Centers in the Philippines.

“I am expected to help intensify the medical assistance programs of the President to help more people in various areas of the Philippines,” she said. “With the help of the Office of the President, I will be able to help in the navigation of OP's Socio-Civic Projects Fund which is currently being placed under the Malasakit Center.”

She hails from Barangay Perrelos in Carcar City, the City in the South of Cebu known for its lechon, chicharon, bocarillio, and ampao.

Asec Veloso has been the number one councilor in the said barangay for two consecutive terms. She was also awarded as an Outstanding Barangay Councilor for her service to the public.

When she joined OPAV last 2018, she resigned from her position as barangay councilor.

Before entering public service, she also worked as sales and marketing head of SunStar Cebu, a leading publication in Cebu.

She then assumed as the branch head of SunStar Cebu Carcar Branch for another five years.

Asec. Veloso explained that she always had the passion of serving the public.

She added that she will be open to doing jobs beyond the call of duty under the Duterte's Administration.

“I expect that working for the President will always entail various challenges and changes. Because of this, we are always ready to adapt to anything the Office of the President wants us to deliver,” Asec Veloso emphasized.

On his part, Secretary Dino thanked President Duterte for adding another support system to OPAV, especially with the wide coverage of the said agency.

“I am so happy and thankful to President Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, I have seen how Girlie worked starting with the Malasakit Center and with other things under our office. The President will always have our service as long as he continues to trust us for the betterment of the Visayas,” said Sec. Dino.

OPAV is the official bridge of the local government units in the Visayas to the Office of the President.(PR)
