Coronavirus cases approach 330,000

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, reported 2,825 new cases of coronavirus infection, increasing the total case count in the country to 329,637.

In its case bulletin issued at 4 p.m. Wednesday, DOH also announced 437 recoveries, bringing the total recoveries to 273,723.

There were an additional 60 deaths, raising the death toll from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) to 5,925.

Fourteen cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Of the 60 new mortalities, 26 occurred in October, 20 in September, six in August and eight in July.

The National Capital Region (NCR) recorded the highest deaths at 23, followed by Calabarzon with 12, Western Visayas with eight, Central Luzon with six and Davao with three.

Cagayan Valley, Northern Mindanao and Caraga each reported two mortalities while Bicol reported one death. One patient who died was a returning overseas Filipino.

Of the 2,825 reported cases today, 2,233 occurred within the recent 14 days from September 24 to October 7.

The highest number of new cases at 1,031 came from the NCR.

The provinces with the highest number of cases Wednesday were Cavite with 243, Batangas with 238, Bulacan with 173 and Rizal with 159.

Of the total case count, 49,989 remained active, including 3.3 percent who were in critical condition, 1.5 percent who were severely ill. 85.9 percent who had mild symptoms and 9.4 percent who had no symptoms.

DOH also said 21 duplicates were removed from the total case count while 12 labs were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Data Repository System (CDRS) on October 6, 2020. (Marites Villamor-Ilano/SunStar Philippines)
