Lacson: When it's all too late

I BET most of Netflix fans out there have heard about a distressing documentary entitled "American Murder: The Family Next Door" and might still be having a hard time moving on just like me. As a woman and a mother, I cannot simply digest the gruesome killing of the victims motivated by just one reason -- the husband's illicit affair.

Any married woman like myself will surely feel up on their toes because we can simply relate to the fear of this happening to our lives as well. Well, not maybe to the extent of being murdered and all, but suffering all the suspicions and doubts when it comes to our husband's behavior. As it can be seen in the documentary, the wife already had some inklings that something was not right, that her husband was acting strangely and might be seeing someone else.

This made me realize that marriage is indeed a two-way street. The wife admitted that she was the dominant one in the relationship, and that may have taken a toll on their relationship after all. As the suspect confessed to the horrendous crime he committed that he wasn't feeling the spark anymore. This could probably be the saddest thing that any wife or spouse to hear from your partner. The husband, Chris Watts, admitted being attracted instantly to his officemate, who in turn gave in and became his mistress.

The investigator was quick to surmise that the suspect may have contemplated long about doing the murder because he wanted a |new life" with his newfound romance. And the only thing that can make that possible was to get rid of his old life. However, in the US, it is easier to separate and get a divorce if the couple is not happy anymore. What he did to his wife and two daughters was simply demonic in nature, and how could ever one imagine doing that to your own kids as little as they were. What's even more bothering is the fact that he threw these little lifeless bodies inside oil tanks belonging to the company he was working for.

Having a new love can never, ever justify the murder he committed against his own family. And an illicit affair will never, ever be right in the moral compass that we all should have in our lives. Let this be a lesson to all married couples out there including myself. May we always honor the vow we made before God and our spouse -- to live and love until death do us part.
