43 PhilHealth officials heed call to resign

THE number of senior executive officials of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) who have heeded the directive of newly installed president and chief executive officer Dante Gierran to tender their resignation has reached 43.

In a statement on Thursday night, October 8, 2020, PhilHealth said 27 tendered their courtesy resignation while 16 opted for retirement.

Among those who resigned, 21 are from the central office while the remaining six are from regional offices.

On the other hand, 10 from the Central Office opted to retire while six more came from regional offices.

Last September 30, Gierran issued a memorandum on September 30 implementing a PhilHealth board resolution promulgated in 2019 that called for the courtesy resignation of all officials holding salary grade (SG) 26 and above posts.

This is in accordance to the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte for Gierran to cleanse PhilHealth of supposed corrupt practices.

To note, there are a total of 66 PhilHealth executives who are within SG 26 and above. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
