Over 80 deaths from Covid-19, nearly 3,000 new cases

MORE than 80 persons died from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) while close to 3,000 new infections were reported by the Department of Health (DOH) Friday, October 9, 2020, amid pronouncements that the outbreak situation in the country has improved.

Based on the case bulletin at 4 p.m. Friday, the DOH reported 2,996 new cases of coronavirus infection, bringing the total case count in the country to 334,770.

Of the new cases reported, majority came from the National Capital Region (NCR) with 1,094.

The provinces with the highest number of new cases of infection were Cavite (282), Batangas (166), Iloilo (152) and Laguna (147).

The DOH report also showed 83 new deaths, raising the death toll from Covid-19 to 6,152.

Of the 83 deaths, 38 were from the NCR, nine from Calabarzon, eight from Central Visayas, six from Ilocos and six from Central Luzon.

The DOH also reported 1,045 new recoveries, increasing the total recoveries to 275,307.

Globally, as of October 8, infections passed the 36 million mark while deaths approached 1.05 million, according to the World Health Organization. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
