City’s P22B budget for 2021 approved

THE Cebu City Development Council (CCDC) has approved the Annual Investment Plan (AIP) for 2021 amounting to P22 billion.

The CCDC held its full Council meeting on Oct. 9, 2020.

Some of the offices, programs and projects that have large budgets based on the AIP for 2021 include the South Road Properties (SRP) management services with P5.5 billion; traffic management and services with P1.78 billion; environment sector with P1.4 billion; and health with P1.3 billion.

The senior citizen affairs also got P1.3 billion based on the AIP; P1.1 billion for social welfare and services; and P1 billion for the Department of Public Services (DPS).

Cebu City Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia, committee on budget and finance chairman, said the filling of Pond A at SRP is included in the P5.5 billion budget for SRP management.

Garcia also mentioned the plan of the City Government to mine the Inayawan landfill and flatten it.

The executive department will use the AIP as basis to finalize the City’s 2021 annual budget.

In 2019, the 2020 AIP of the City was only P15 billion, P7 billion lower than the AIP for 2021.

Garcia said for the final proposal of the mayor for the 2021 annual budget, he expects a much lower proposal than P22 billion.

The proposal of the executive department will then be endorsed to the Cebu City Council for approval.

The Council recently urged the executive department to have the 2021 annual budget be pandemic-responsive.

In a resolution sponsored by Councilor Alvin Dizon, the 2021 annual budget should be focused on health, economic recovery, aid and education, among others. (JJL)
