Facebook takes down 3 accounts misrepresenting PNP chief

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Camilo Cascolan said on Sunday, October 11, 2020, that Facebook has granted his request to shut down three accounts that have been linked to various scams.

PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group Director Marvin Manuel Pepino said the three fake accounts misrepresented Cascolan as “Camilo Pancratius Pikoy Cascolan", "Camilo P Cascolan” and "Camilo Cascolan”.

“These fake accounts have been active in social networks enticing Facebook users to donate funds purportedly to purchase computer tablets for students in urban poor communities for online classes,” said Pepino.

He said investigators have traced the said accounts to several cases of online swindling and estafa, mostly solicitation of funds purportedly for social welfare and humanitarian projects.

Pepino said they have already sent subpoenas to four persons allegedly behind the bogus accounts.

They may face criminal charges of violation of Section 4 (b) 3 of Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, for identity theft, and Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code for swindling or estafa (online scam). (SunStar Philippines)
