BFAR 7 enlarges sea grapes culture in Carmen town

THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (Bfar) 7 has expanded its sea grapes culture at the Regional Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Coordination Center’s demonstration farm in Carmen town, northern Cebu.

The agency initiated the project with the Carmen Brackishwater Fish Farm (CBFF) to provide a bigger space for research or hands-on training on various agricultural techniques or technology. Sea grapes are locally known as lato, the Bfar 7 reported on its Facebook page.

CBFF head Joel Clapano said his personnel harvested on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, about 2.1 metric tons of sea grapes seedlings. These were used for the one-fourth hectare expansion for cultured sea grapes at the demonstration farm.

The demonstration farm, owned and operated by the Bfar 7, serves as one of the most efficient extension or education tools in testing or identifying ways to better manage resources such as sea grapes to increase production.
