Baguio City Council commends Karen Aton on dance win

THE Baguio City Council commended Karen Navarette Aton for winning an international title.

Councilor Arthur Allad-iw filed a resolution, which was adopted by the legislative body, commending Anton for emerging as champion in the ethnic dance category of the recently concluded international dance world championship competition organized by the All Dane International.

"Despite the pandemic, she deserves to be commended for her remarkable achievement and for her hard work in bringing exceptional recognition to the city and the whole country as well," said Allad-iw.

He said Aton was the lone representative of the Philippines to the competition and got a score of 94.1 percent from the panel of judges.

All Dance International is the biggest dance organization worldwide, with presence in five continents and more than 100 countries. It gathered professional dancers all over the world in a virtual live competition last September 23-29.

Aton's winning performance was a "Ori Tahiti" Polynesian dance.

She was also nominated as one of the best dancers in the competition, as she placed in the top 10 in all three dance modalities she joined.

She made it to the top 5 for the Musical Theater category and placed 9th in the Show Dance Category.

Aton is the founder of the renowned Baguio Metamorphosis dance group and is the owner of the Aloha Philippines Dance Academy where she has been teaching dance for 25 years.
