DAVAO City’s TheBauHaus Gallery in Doña Vicenta Subdivision breathes new hope into Mindanao art with one of Mindanao’s first arts events since the global pandemic, Kulit Kultura.
Open to the public for free, Kulit Kultura collates and curates creations in the craft of carving, both by seasoned sculptors and emerging new artists. Works by sculptors and painters Chico Arquiza, Jeff Bangot, Arnel Borja, Jag Bueno, Richard Buxani, Joel Castro, Mariano Catague, Gubb sol Cruz, Pope Dalisay, Victor Augustus Dumaguing, Bong Espinosa, Pinx Gaspe, Micha Laury, Henry Lazaro, Errol Magbanua, Raffy Malbacias, Jaime Conrado Medina, Hafid Millan, Kublai Millan, Carlito Talba Ortega Vyankka Pauline, Dante Pintor, Benjie Saban, Jonathan Sensano, Jong Tangiday, Darell Blatchley, Algie Intapaya, Agi Pagkatipunan, Danny Rayos del Sol, Cecile Hidalgo and Banjo Satorre all share space curated by Jonathan Traya.
With sculptures exhibited for the world's eyes, Kulit Kultura both offers sculptors a platform to prod and stimulate Mindanawon imaginations into dynamism, and an opportunity for Mindanawon audiences to experience the empowering art of sculpture.
There to cut the ribbon were Bro. Karl Gaspar, Angel Malaika Jickain, Dr. Michaelangelo Dakudao, Dr. Yoj Lamanosa and Glo Cuaresma.
Mindanawon Musician Popong Landero complements the entire experience by serenading guests.
Kulit Kultura is a space for collaboration between artists and community, an opportunity not only to improve sculptor's skills but also a chance to carve a stronger, more inclusive sense of local identity for Mindanao.
"In the process, we create a template by which other locales can begin strengthening the integrity of their own identities -the carver and community helping write this island's soul together, introspecting into and celebrating what destiny we can chisel and mold with what we have," it said.
Kulit Kultura runs from October 9 to 17, 2020. Admission is open to the public for free on a by-appointment basis to help maintain social distancing. (PR)
