Fire strikes Cebu hotel; damage placed at P300K

AN ESTIMATED P300,000 worth of properties were destroyed when an early morning fire hit a hotel in Barangay Zapatera, Cebu City on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020.

FO2 Emerson Arceo of the Cebu City Fire Department reported that they received a fire alarm coming from the White Knight Hotel on Gen. Maxilom Ave.

Arceo said the fire reportedly occurred in the hotel’s basement area.

Due to the presence of thick smoke which prevented firefighters from fully penetrating the area, Arceo said they immediately declared a first alarm, which allowed firefighters within Cebu City’s jurisdiction to respond.

After they were able to control the fire at 10:22 a.m., Arceo said they discovered that the fire started in the hotel’s IT room.

Though no one was killed nor hurt during the fire, about 34 individuals, mostly frontliners who were availing themselves of free accommodation at the hotel, were affected. (GPL / JKV)
