1 dies, 2 hurt in motorcycle-truck collision

ONE person died, while two others were critically injured in a collision of a motorcycle and a truck along the highway in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Friday, October 16.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened at 7:26 p.m. Thursday, October 15, in Makilas village, Ipil, the capital town of Zamboanga Sibugay.

Duco identified the fatality as Aiben Acabal Maitom, 19, a student from Poblacion village, Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay, and the driver of ill-fated motorcycle.

Injured were the back-riders of Maitom identified as Hannah May Rodriguez Baylon, 19, of Diplahan, the same province; and Rhynadilig Figueroa, 20, of Don Andres village, Ipil.

Duco said investigation showed that the motorcycle collided head-on with the truck driven by Primo Lopez Ambos, 58, while traveling on opposite direction after Maitom overtook on another vehicle.

He said the three riders of the motorcycle were rushed to the Ipil Provincial Hospital for treatment but the attending physician declared Maitom dead upon arrival due to hypovolemic shock caused by multiple organ injury. (SunStar Zamboanga)
