Police prohibited from using TikTok while on duty

POLICE personnel assigned in Central Visayas will have to follow an order issued by the new leadership of the Philippine National Police (PNP) that prohibits them from posting content in Tiktok, a video-sharing social networking service, while on their uniform and on duty.

In compliance with the order of Gen. Camilo Cascolan, the newly installed PNP chief, Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 director Brigadier Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro warned his personnel that they could face sanctions if they fail to comply with the directive.

“If you are on duty, you cannot just post videos on Tiktok as this will affect your efficiency as police officers,” Ferro told reporters.

But Ferro clarified that the ban only applies during work hours, including the uploading of videos that show indecent exposure.

Ferro has also tasked the Anti-Cyber Crime Group 7, with assistance from the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (Imeg) 7 and Internal Affairs Service (IAS), to monitor social media and discipline erring police officers.

Separately, Police Col. Josefino Ligan, acting Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) director, also released an order prohibiting the use of TikTok in camp premises and while on duty.

He said that if a police officer under his office wants to use TikTok, he or she should do it while not in uniform and not during office hours.

Ligan said: “If he or she wants to use Tiktok, then he should use it at his personal time. We should not waste time while working for the government.”

Any officer caught violating the order will be charged with an administrative case. (AYB / CBQ)
