Drug suspect killed in shootout during buy-bust

A 30-YEAR-OLD alleged drug personality was killed during a shootout with police officers who were conducting a buy-bust operation in Jaro, Leyte Thursday, October 15, 2020.

Police identified the victim as Lisbon “Vhonz” Nivera, a resident of Jaro town.

A poseur buyer with the help of the confidential informant managed to buy one piece of heat-sealed plastic sachet containing suspected shabu from Nivera worth P35,000 using buy-bust money during the operation around 11:45 a.m. Thursday in Barangay-3, Poblacion of the said town.

The suspect sensed the approaching police officers and immediately fired his gun towards the operatives, prompting the latter to return fire and seriously wounded the suspect.

Nivera was immediately brought to Jaro Rural Health Unit for medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician, police said in the report.

The inventory of the recovered items was also witnessed by a barangay official and a media representative, police added. (SunStar Philippines)
