Moralde, Bernaldez, Bacon in breaking matches

THREE Pinoy pugs are seeing action in two different locations in the US on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020.

John Vincent Moralde will be in the Las Vegas spotlight as he takes on promising Mexican Jose Enrique Vivas in one of the preliminary bouts of the much-anticipated unification bout between pound-for-pound No. 2 Vasyl Lomachenko and hard-hitting Teofimo Lopez inside “The Bubble” of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The 26-year-old Moralde, the former World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council Continental featherweight champion, will step foot on top of the ring for the first time in 10 months. He was supposed to fight on July 16 against Alexis Del Bosque but the fight was scrapped after he tested positive for Covd-19.

Moralde last saw action on Dec. 21, 2019, wherein he destroyed Matias Arriagada in just a single round.

The 26-year-old Vivas, on the other hand, is coming off back-to-back wins since suffering his only career loss in the hands of one-time world title challenger Ruben Villa. He stopped Saul Banos in five rounds and outclassed previously unbeaten Carlos Jackson.

Moralde is 23-3 with 13 knockouts, while Vivas is 19-1 with 10 knockouts.

Meanwhile, Moralde’s Sanman Gym teammates, Mark Bernaldez and James Bacon, are fighting at the Manual Artime Community Center Theater in Miami.

Bernaldez trades leathers with journeyman Julian Aristule, while Bacon locks horns with Gonzalo Dallera.

The 26-year-old Bernaldez is looking to bounce back after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Albert Bell a few months ago. Aristule is also eager to win and end his four-fight losing slump.

Bernaldez is 20-4 with 14 knockouts, while the 37-year-old Aristule is 34-13 with 17 knockouts.

Bacon will be making his US debut. He was supposed to fight undefeated Alexis Rocha on Aug. 28 in Indio, California but the card was cancelled after the main event fighter, Jorge Linares, tested positive for Covid-19.

He’ll be in a much easier fight against Dallera, who has lost his last four bouts.

Bacon is 23-4 with 15 knockouts, while Dallera is 6-8 with four knockouts. (EKA)
