THE City Health Office has reported that dengue cases in Cagayan de Oro have dropped by 77 percent in the first 10 months of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019.

Based on the data, from January to October 17, the City Health Office recorded 749 dengue cases compared to last year's 3,670 cases.

It also showed that in 2020, the month of January registered the highest number of dengue cases at 252 cases and in 2019, in August at 854 cases.

Despite the huge drop in the number of dengue cases in Cagayan de Oro, City Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya said an increase is expected to happen.

"Ting-ulan pa man karon, mosaka pa na sya, motaas na siya. Pero, definitely it will be not as high as last year, but importante mahibaw-an nato nga ang dengue makapatay," Retuya said.

Retuya reminded the public to remain vigilant and maintain a clean environment, especially during the rainy season.

He also urged everyone to follow the "4S": search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites; secure self-protection measures (long pants and long-sleeved shirts, mosquito repellent); seek early consultation; and support fogging/spraying in hotspot areas.
