A LOW pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Catanduanes in Bicol may develop into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

At 3 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2020, the (LPA) was spotted at 1,035 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes. It was moving northwestward over the Philippine Sea towards northern Luzon.

Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms are forecast over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao in the next 24 hours due to the trough of the LPA.

Pagasa warned of flashfloods or landslides in these areas due to moderate to heavy rains.

In most of Luzon, a northeasterly surface windflow is expected to bring moderate to heavy rains. Affected areas are Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Bicol.

The weather bureau also warned of flashfloods or landslides in these areas.

The rest of the country may expect localized thunderstorms that could cause flashfloods and landslides. (MVI/SunStar Philippines)
