1 dead, 3 hurt in highway collision

A TWO-YEAR-OLD child died while three others were injured in a highway accident in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Monday, October 19, 2020.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, disclosed the incident took place around 1:11 p.m. Sunday on Rizal Avenue in Makuguihon village, Molave, Zamboanga del Sur.

Duco identified the fatality as Rene Mae Bangquiao Labang, who was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at the Salug Valley Medical Center in Molave.

Duco said wounded were Ricky Mark Natividad Labang, 18, driver of one of the two ill-fated motorcycles; Maena Amor Flores Bangquiao, 23; and, Ricardo Bacus Labang, 41, driver of the other motorcycle.

Duco said investigation showed that Ricky, with Rene Mae and Maena Amor as his back riders, crashed into Ricardo’s motorcycle as he tried to overtake but returned to his road lane upon seeing an in-bound passenger bus.

He said, as a result, the two motorcycles crashed on the pavement and were run over by the inbound bus, which was traveling from Molave to Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Sur.

Duco said the two motorcycles were traveling from Ramon Magsaysay town to the municipality of Dumingag at the time of the accident.

He said the drivers of the two motorcycles and Maena Amor were hospitalized. (SunStar Zamboanga)
