LAPU-LAPU City will have another attraction following the reopening of tourism in the city.
It will be the 100-meter-long underwater cross which will be located in Brgy. Tingo, Olango island.
The construction of this newest attraction is still going on, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan said.
One completed, it will be the largest underwater cross, which the government plans to apply to set a world record in the Guinness World Records.
The cross is made of corals, where sea creatures can live.
It will also serve as an expression of deep faith in God especially for the protection He has provided Oponganons with especially during the pandemic.
The spot will attract more tourists especially divers as the city is one of the most beautiful diving sites in Asia.
“More tourists means more sources of livelihood for our constituents,” Chan said.
On Oct. 17, 2020, the city’s tourism was formally reopened through the efforts of Chan and his wife Cindi King-Chan who is the chairman of the Tourism Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission.
The tourism in the city was relaunched through a travel fair where resort bookings and various tours and cruise packages were offered at low prices for visitors to take advantage of amid the modified general community quarantine.
“We created a task force to redefine, refocus and change our tourism game plan to go forward in order to survive, to revive and to thrive,” Cindi said.
Vice Mayor Celsi Sitoy is also pleased with this development because after a long time, the tourism-dependent livelihood of the Opongan people will be restored. (GCM / MMC)
