THE senior citizens in Mandaue City will soon receive their remaining P4,000 financial assistance in December.

The Mandaue City Council together with the Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs (Osca) president and a representative from the City Social Welfare and Services (CSWS) convened on Oct. 19, 2020, to schedule the distribution and the methods to be considered.

Mandaue City Councilor Cesar Cabahug, the chairman of the Committee on Social Services and Senior Citizens Affairs, said they will soon distribute the remaining P4,000 cash assistance in December but they still have not decided on the date.

Since the last distribution in April, more than 1,881 senior citizens have yet to claim their financial assistance as they cannot travel from their provinces due to the community quarantine protocol.

Cabahug said they received many concerns from those who have not claimed their financial assistance in April.

However, Cabahug assured that there is a 90 percent chance that those who have not claimed in April can claim their whole annual financial assistance of P8,000 in December.

There are over 22,956 registered senior citizens in Mandaue City this year.

Melinda Buhag, the Osca president of Mandaue City, said they expect the number of registered senior citizens who will claim the financial assistance in December to decrease compared to their April distribution.

The Osca still has to update the figures of the beneficiaries as many of its members have passed away in the last six months.

However, she clarified that those who have registered this year will not be included in this year’s assistance as the validity will take effect in February 2021.

Cabahug clarified that they still have not finalized anything and they still have to convene on Nov. 4 for the final guidelines.

They still have to meet and relay the information to the president of each barangay.

To avoid overcrowding during its monthly senior citizen meeting, it made a system to have a president for each sitio who will raise the concerns and suggestions of the senior citizens in his community. (KFD)
