105 healthcare workers in Cagayan de Oro test positive for coronavirus

A TOTAL of 105 healthcare workers in Cagayan de Oro City have tested positive for the novel coronavirus as of Sunday, October 18, City Health Office Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya reported.

Retuya said among the 105 healthcare workers, 25 are doctors (11 in Northern Mindanao Medical Center [NMMC], one in JR Borja General Hospital, others are in different private hospitals) and 46 are nurses (21 from NMMC).

The City Health Office registered four Covid-positive frontliners, which include two barangay healthcare workers and one midwife.

NMMC, being the main Covid-19 referral hospital, has the most number of Covid-positive healthcare workers at 72 (non-CDO employees included).

Of the 72 personnel, 46 are active cases and 26 have recovered.

Over the weekend, Cagayan de Oro City recorded 41 new Covid-19 cases, six of whom are healthcare workers, namely the 1,213th, 1,220th, 1,225th, 1,241st, 1,242nd and 1,243rd cases.

The 1,213th case is a 33-year-old female resident of Barangay Bugo. She works as a nurse under the Department of Health (DOH) and was assigned in a municipality in Misamis Oriental. She traveled with her family to Initao on October 11. She had a sore throat, fever and body malaise on October 14. Her last day of duty was on the same day.

The woman was admitted to a private hospital on October 15, where she was swabbed and tested positive.

The 1,220th case is a 23-year-old male from Barangay Nazareth. He works as a nurse in a private hospital. He had a sore throat and cough on October 10. His last day of duty was on October 11. He went to the said hospital for a checkup on October 12. He was swabbed on October 14 and the result came out positive on October 16.

The City Health Office identified two close contacts of the man.

The 1,225th case is a 41-year-old male resident of Barangay Iponan, who works in a private hospital. He had a fever on October 15. His last day of duty was on the same day. He was admitted on October 16, to a private hospital where he was swabbed and tested positive. He is set to be transferred to the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility.

The City Health Office identified two direct contacts of the man.

The 1,241st case is a 27-year-old female, who was exposed to a Covid-positive non-CDO patient. She is a social worker at the NMMC. Her last day of exposure was on October 5. She had a low-grade fever, chills and colds on October 6. She was swabbed at the NMMC on October 13 and the result came out positive on October 17. She is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility.

The City Health Office identified 13 direct contacts of the woman.

The 1,242nd case is a 44-year-old female resident of Barangay Camaman-an. She works as a doctor at the NMMC. She has a history of travel in a municipality in Misamis Oriental. She experienced throat discomfort, shortness of breath and post nasal drip on October 5. She also has comorbidities, including hypertension and bronchial asthma. She is set to be transferred to the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility.

The City Health Office identified five direct contacts of the woman.

The 1,243rd case is a 39-year-old female resident of Barangay Macabalan, who works as a nursing attendant in the Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Disease (EREID) ward of NMMC. Her last day of duty was on October 3. She had nasal congestion on October 5 and experienced loss of sense of taste and smell on October 8. She is set to be transferred to the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility.

The City Health Office identified one close contact of the woman.

Cagayan de Oro, as of October 18, has a total confirmed Covid-19 cases of 1,253 and a total number of recoveries of 828.

The city registered 368 active cases, 34 of whom are admitted to the NMMC, 327 are outpatients and seven returning overseas Filipinos/locally stranded individuals.
