SEDC aids 2 Cebu towns amid Covid-19 pandemic

THE SOLID Earth Development Corp. (SEDC) has been helping its host towns San Fernando and Pinamungajan in Cebu hurdle the difficulties and challenges since the start of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) crisis hit the province.

Last March, SEDC donated 60 sacks of rice that weigh 50 kilos each to the San Fernando Municipal Government.

SEDC’s primary client, Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI), complemented the donation with 50 sacks of rice that also weigh 50 kilos. The donation was given to San Fernando Mayor Lakambini Reluya for the town’s 21 barangays.

“We expected (at the time) the limited access of residents for their supply of rice at home and their truncated means to earn a living,” said Mitzie Almira I. Carin, SEDC division manager for human resources and administration.

In the following weeks, the company donated 105 more sacks of 50-kilo rice to the host and neighboring communities in San Fernando. It also gave two sets of care packages to the same communities released on separate occasions.

SEDC further donated 50 sacks of 50-kilo rice in Pinamungajan—10 sacks each for host barangays of Duangan, Lut-od and Sibago, and neighboring barangays Anislag and Guimbawian.

The company distributed 10 sacks each to its host barangays in San Fernando—Bugho, Magsico, North Poblacion, South Poblacion, Panadtaran, Tañañas, Tinubdan and Tonggo, and five each to neighboring barangays Basak, Cabatbatan, Ilaya, Tabionan and Tubod.

It released care packages for the same 13 barangays, first on April 21, then another on May 4. Each package contains masks, disinfectants such as alcohol and chlorine, germicidal soap, eggs, chocolate and milk drinks, coffee, sugar, cups and stirrers.

SEDC also turned over to the San Fernando Municipal Health Office the medical supplies that the frontliners will use when they attend to cases linked to Covid-19.

Carin recently handed the cover-all suits, surgical masks, N95 masks, surgical gloves and face shields to Dr. Alcestis Donna B. Azul, San Fernando’s rural health physician under the Department of Health 7.

In cooperation with supplier Triple 8 Resources Development Corp., SEDC delivered and provided water to barangays Bugho, Magsico, Tabionan and Tinubdan in San Fernando when the entire Cebu was still under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

“The ECQ prevented the residents from going out to fetch water from far-flung water sources,” she said.

SEDC and TCPI have also continued donating cement to barangays and schools that request for it.
