Dad seeks aid for daughter's ACL operation

A PROMISING lady footballer is knocking on the doors of Samaritans to help in her operation from an injury.

Baguio City football coach Aris Bocalan's daughter Eunique is needing operation for her ACL injury, which she incurred during her training with the Philippines' U-16 Girls squad a week before the AFC U-16 Women's Qualifiers in 2018 in Nepal.

During their training, Bocalan said her daughter's left knee buckled in one drill and felt intensive pain and was not able to finish the training.

Based on the on-field assessment by physiotherapist Anna Liza Demegillo signed by coach Joyce Landagan, an ACL insufficiency was confirmed while an MRI procedure at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center confirmed the earlier diagnosis of the team's physiotherapist and recommended reconstruction for the injured ligament.

Bocalan said it has been almost two years since her daughter suffered the career threatening injury preventing her from joining competition.

"What happened was heartbreaking not only because she could no longer join the tournament she trained hard for, but because the injury halted her blossoming sports career," Bocalan said of her daughter.

Due to financial constrain, Eunique's family prevented them from getting the operation she needed while fearing the ACL might aggravate if not given the immediate operation.

Bocalan said Eunique is currently a Grade 12 student of the University of the Cordilleras and hopes to earn a scholarship when she enters college next year if she gets an operation the soonest.

The former Ateneo booter added he is hopeful the Philippine Football Federation and the Philippine Sports Commission can also help in the operation of Eunique.

"We are knocking on the good hearts of the members of the football community to give whatever you can so that Eunique can be back on the field to play again. We are looking for 80 generous individuals to donate P2,000 each, but any amount you can share will be certainly appreciated," added Bocalan.

For those willing to help, they may deposit to BPI, Account No. 8129019485, Account Name: Ariston C. Bocalan or contact (0945)830-9994 or (0939)552-1004.
