A 106-YEAR-OLD male resident of Barangay Lumbia is the oldest who recovered Covid-19 in Cagayan de Oro, City Health Office Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya said.
Despite having some comorbidities, the man spent a month recovering from the virus and was tested negative in his repeat swab test.
He was discharged from the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility on October 18, 2020.
"Dili sad ingon nga dali ra sya naka-recover kay niagi pa na sya'g admission sa usa ka pribado nga ospital, mga pipila ka adlaw. Then nabalhin siya sa NMMC (Northern Mindanao Medical Center). Dugay-dugay sya sa NMMC. Ug gi-step down sya sa atong TTMF (Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility)," Retuya said.
Cagayan de Oro City has recorded a total of 1,278 confirmed Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic. Of the said figure, 57 registered as deaths.
According to Retuya, around 70 to 80 percent of the Covid-19 related deaths in the city are due to comorbidities.
"Our comorbidity plays a major role in the mortality of a patient that is being infected with Covid-19," Retuya said.
"Dili sad 100 percent nga duna kay comorbidity mamatay ka (It is not 100 percent that you will die due to Covid if you have comorbidity). It really depends. Statistically, makita nato nga kung duna kay comorbidity, you have a higher chance nga pwede mamatay (If you have comorbidity, there is a higher chance that a person will die)," he added.
Retuya further said that Covid-positive people without comorbidity also have a chance of dying, however, the percentage is quite small compared to those with comorbidities.
