THE noble act of child-rearing, although rewarding, comes with its own set of challenges—more so, during a pandemic. New parents Kryz and Slater Young embarked on a new chapter of their lives during a most trying time, being pregnant and eventually giving birth while the world battles a pandemic.

Kryz was approaching her final trimester when the Covid-19 crisis rendered Cebu under lockdown. She and Slater powered through the next few months with looming fear not only for their own health but for the life they were about to bring into the world, one that’s currently under the threat of a deadly virus. “There was a lot of anxiety and uncertainty,” Slater recalls.

Taking every precaution, Kryz and Slater welcomed a healthy baby boy named Scott Knoa in June. Delivering a baby during a pandemic is one story, raising one is another. “There is a lot of trial and error because of that, and we keep adjusting and learning daily,” shares Kryz.

With concerned parents like the Youngs in mind, AIA Philam Life reintroduces AIA Med-Assist—this time with benefits specifically for children. Based on the same product launched early this year, it is a variable life insurance plan with medical benefit rider designed to address medical expenses due to hospitalization of 0- to 17-year-olds. Aside from 90 percent coverage, the plan comes with a life insurance benefit and an investment fund that can help parents build their own medical fund in the future.

If there’s one thing this pandemic has taught the young couple, it’s that one can never be too prepared, especially when it comes to a child’s future.
