Lacson: For a while, rest I must

WHENEVER I feel down and disheartened, this is my go-to poem:

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,

When the funds are low and the debts are high,

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit-

Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,

As every one of us sometimes learns,

And many a fellow turns about

When he might have won had he stuck it out.

Don't give up though the pace seems slow -

You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than

It seems to a faint and faltering man;

Often the struggler has given up

When he might have captured the victor's cup;

And he learned too late when the night came down,

How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out -

The silver tint in the clouds of doubt,

And you never can tell how close you are,

It might be near when it seems afar;

So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit -

It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Thank you, John Greenleaf Whittier, for this spot-on expression that never runs old in providing comfort to anyone who is experiencing a downturn in life.

At this point in my life, as I feel tired and demotivated, I shall hibernate and rest myself for a while. Just like the leaves on the trees, I will let the wind sway me until I finally dry up and let go of the twig which held me for so long. Go with the flow, as they always say.

Just like a drained battery, I will slowly regain my energy and bounce back to life as I get a full recharge of myself. In time, I know the strong drive and passion that I used to have will come back, and when the time and situation is right for me and everyone else.

As I go through this low point, I only have the grace of God to keep me living. After all, I am not here on Earth for other people, but I need to be alive for my kids and my family. Not anyone else.

It's so true when they say that anyone is dispensable, and in the workplace, anyone can take your place. However, in your family, it is only you who can be a mother to your children, and a wife to your spouse. So there goes what really matters in life.

In these trying times, I choose the solitude and serenity away from the spotlight.
