CAR escapes Pepito’s wrath

DESPITE the overnight rains brought about by Tropical Storm Pepito, the Cordillera Region was spared with no casualties reported.

In Baguio City, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Office and Baguio City Police Office Station 8 personnel together with Barangay Officials of Camp 7 have advised residents in high-risk areas to do pre-emptive evacuation due to the threats of Tropical Storm.

Albert Mogol, Office of the Civil Defense – Cordillera Administrative Region (OCD –CAR) regional director earlier advised all DRRM officials to conduct preemptive measures to ensure the safety of individuals and families in identified high-risk areas.

OCD –CAR reported all major road networks in the Cordillera remained open.

In Benguet, the Governor Bado Dangwa National Road (Pulag, Gambang, Bakun) is also open for light vehicles only while in Kalinga, the Kalinga-Abra National Road, Balinciagao Section is now undergoing road clearing.

In Ifugao, road clearing operation is currently ongoing at the Viewpoint Road, Banaue, Ifugao section.

Leo Quintilla, Department of Social Welfare and Development – CAR (DSWD – CAR) regional director earlier ensured the prepositioned goods for those individuals and families that may be affected by the tropical storm.

Brigadier General R’win Pagkalinawan, Police Regional Office – Cordillera (PRO - COR) regional director also assured the police visibility in areas where they will be needed.

“Our police personnel will be on alert for any support that may be needed particularly in search and rescue, aside from transportation of equipment and facilities if the need arises,” Pagkalinawan said.
