Covid-positive NMMC employees now at 73

THE total number of Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) employees who tested positive for the novel coronavirus has reached 73, as of Wednesday, October 21, liaison officer Dr. Bernard Rocha said.

According to Rocha, 30 of the 73 NMMC employees have already recovered from the virus, including 14 nurses, eight doctors, five pharmacists, one lab technician and three nursing attendants.

Those who are now back to work consist of six doctors, nine nurses, one radiologic technologist and three pharmacists.

This leaves more than 40 NMMC personnel who are still down with the virus, Rocha said, adding that most of them are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.

Despite the increasing number of Covid-positive healthcare workers at the NMMC, Rocha said no one from their hospital has resigned but rather chose to remain at the NMMC.

The NMMC liaison officer also assured that NMMC still accepts and admits patients with severe to critical cases.

When asked where the healthcare personnel at the NMMC contracted the virus, Rocha said it was either at their Emerging and Reemerging Infectious Infectious Diseases (EREID) section, where the Covid-19 patients are confined, or at the communities where they live.

"It is pretty much self-explanatory na regarding kung ang mga na-assign sa EREID matakdan gyud sila og Covid-19 because we are talking about an invisible enemy and sometimes there are breaches nga gahitabo," Rocha said.

"Kana kon matakdan ang usa ka empleyado nga naka-assign sa EREID, there is also a possibility, even though naka quarantine na sila, if one of them gets it, puwede gihapon matakdan ang uban," he added.

The NMMC liaison officer also expressed his gratitude to JR Borja General Hospital and the city's private hospitals for helping decongest NMMC by receiving the bulk of the normal childbirth deliveries in the city.
