Centenarian Covid-19 survivor dies of 'natural causes'

THE 106-year-old male resident of Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City who recently recovered from coronavirus disease (Covid-19) died of "natural causes" around 1 a.m. of October 21.

City Health Office Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya said the man, who was born on April 28, 1914, passed away not because of Covid-19 as his last repeat swab test result already came out negative.

The 106-year-old man spent a month recovering from the virus, during which he was admitted in a private hospital for several days, transferred to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) and stepped down to the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility.

The City Health Office said the man was discharged from the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility on October 18, 2020.

The man was one of the centenarians who were given P100,000 cash award on November 2017.

Mayor Oscar Moreno, for his part, offered his condolences to the family of the 106-year-old man.

As of October 21, Cagayan de Oro has recorded 54 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,348.

The city registered 400 active cases, 27 of whom are admitted at the NMMC, 363 are outpatients, and 10 are ROFs/LSIs.

The total recoveries in the city are now at 887 and the number of deaths is now at 61.
