18 Oro jail inmates test positive for coronavirus

EIGHTEEN persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in Cagayan de Oro City Jail have tested positive for coronavirus, City Health Office Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya reported Thursday, October 22.

According to Retuya, as of October 22, in the recent batch of inmates who were swabbed (221 inmates), 52 have tested positive for the virus that causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), of which 13 have already recovered.

The 18 coronavirus-positive PDLs were among the 54 new cases recorded in the city.

The profiles of the Covid-19 positive inmates are the following:

* 1,295th case: a 23-year-old male from Barangay Gusa. He was detained at the Police Station 3 on September 18 and was transferred to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on September 28. He was swabbed on October 6 and tested negative. He was swabbed again on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,296th case: a 29-year-old male from Barangay 26. He was detained in Carmen Police Station on September 10 and was transferred to the BJMP on September 28. He was swabbed on October 6 and tested negative. He was swabbed again on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,297th case: a 36-year-old male from Barangay Nazareth. He was detained at the Police Station 9 on February 18 and was transferred to the BJMP on February 25. He was swabbed on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,298th case: a 23-year-old male from Barangay Lumbia. He was detained at the Police Station 8 on December 18, 2013 and was transferred to the BJMP in May 2014. He was swabbed on October 17 and the result came out positive on October 20. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,299th case: a male resident of Barangay Bayabas. He was detained at the Police Station 5 on May 5 and was transferred to the BJMP on May 12. He was swabbed on October 6 and tested negative. He was swabbed again on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,300th case: a 29-year-old male from Barangay Bugo. He was detained at the Agora Police Station on September 22 and was transferred to the BJMP on September 28. He was swabbed on October 6 and tested negative. He was swabbed again on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,301st case: a 48-year-old male from Barangay Lapasan. He was detained on July 13 at the city enforcement unit and was transferred to the BJMP in the same month. He was swabbed on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,302nd case: a 51-year-old male from Barangay Canitoan. He was detained at the Police Station 8 in June and was transferred to the BJMP in the same month. He was brought to the city jail's infirmary in the first week of October. He was swabbed on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,303rd case: a 20-year-old male from Barangay Cugman. He was detained at the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on September 18 and was transferred to the BJMP on September 28. He was swabbed on October 6 and tested negative. He was swabbed again on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,304th case: a 27-year-old male from Barangay Camaman-an. He was detained at the Police Station 9 and was transferred to the BJMP. He was swabbed on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,305th case: a 34-year-old male resident of Barangay Macabalan. He was detained at the Police Station 5 in the first week of December 2019 and was transferred to the BJMP in the same month. He was brought to the jail's infirmary in the first week of September 2020. He was swabbed on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,306th case: a 33-year-old male from Barangay Macasandig. He was detained at the Police Station 9 on September 23 and was transferred to the BJMP on September 29. He was swabbed on October 6 and tested negative. He was swabbed again on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,307th case: a 60-year-old male resident of Barangay Lumbia. He was detained at the Police Station 8 on February 18 and was transferred to the BJMP on February 21. He had an epigastric pain during the first week of October. He was swabbed on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,308th case: a 20-year-old male from Barangay Macabalan. He was detained at the Police Station 4 on April 1 and was transferred to the BJMP on April 8. He had skin disease on September 2 and was brought to the jail's infirmary. He was swabbed on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,309th case: a 52-year-old from Barangay Bulua. He was detained at the Police Station 10 on April 12 and was transferred to the BJMP on April 16. He was brought to the jail's infirmary during the first week of September after he showed symptoms of the disease. He was swabbed on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,310th case: a 27-year-old male from Barangay Carmen. He was detained at the Police Station 2 on September 16 and was transferred to the BJMP on September 26. He was swabbed on October 6 and tested negative. He was swabbed again on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,311th case: a 47-year-old male from Barangay Patag. He was detained at the PDEA on February 17 and was transferred to the BJMP. He was brought to the jail's infirmary due to an onset of symptoms. He was swabbed on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

* 1,312th case: a 35-year-old male from Barangay Carmen. He was detained at the Police Station 2 on May 2 and was transferred to the BJMP on May 15. He was brought to the jail's infirmary in June. He was swabbed on October 17 and the result came out positive. He is currently at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility in the city jail.

Mayor Oscar Moreno assured that the jail inmates were tended by the city health personnel in coordination with the health personnel at the BJMP.

"Ang challenging lang diha sa atong BJMP kay wala may isoaltion nga one person to a room. Pero naay diskarte ana diha," Moreno said.

He added that inmates who will be discharged from custody will be transferred to the city's regular Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility (TTMF) before being integrated back to the community.

"Naa nay order of discharge ang husgado. So what do we do with him? He has to be discharged sa jail. Ato syang dawaton sa atong regular TTMF. I-process lang ang papeles and then he will be transferred to our TTMF," Moreno said.
