Pampanga top cop warns vs scammers

PAMPANGA Police Provincial Office Director Colonel Andres Simbajon has warned the public against unscrupulous individuals who are using his name in various illegal activities.

Simbajon said several reports have reached his office notifying him about the existence of social media accounts bearing his name which are used to scam other people.

He added that scammers are also using various phone numbers to call stakeholders and public officials to solicit money.

"Just like what happened to different officials of the Philippine National Police, these individuals are using social media and cellphones to mislead people and solicit money, claiming it will be intended for the projects of the provincial police office," he said.

Simbajon said he already directed a team to conduct a probe into such incidents, and has warned the people behind said illegal activities to immediately stop or the law will definitely come after them.

If arrested, he said suspects will be facing charges for violation of Sec. 4 (b) 3 of Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, for identity theft; and Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code for Estafa (Online Scam).
