Northern Mindanao logs highest Covid-19 cases in Mindanao

NORTHERN Mindanao has registered the highest number of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in Mindanao, reaching a total of 4,470 cases.

As of 3 p.m. Thursday, October 22, the region recorded 117 new confirmed Covid-19 cases, of which 103 are local cases from Bukidnon (14), Lanao del Norte (10), Misamis Occidental (2), Misamis Oriental (20), Cagayan de Oro City (53) and Iligan City (4); and 14 are ROFs/LSIs in Bukidnon (3), Camiguin (2), Lanao del Norte (7), Misamis Occidental (1) and Cagayan de Oro City (1).

The region also registered 21 Covid-19 patients who are now tagged as "recovered," 11 of whom are from Misamis Oriental and 10 are from Cagayan de Oro City.

The confirmed case fatality rate in Northern Mindanao is at 2.59 percent (116 deaths) and the recovery rate is at 51.61 percent (2,307 recoveries).

The data recorded from January 31 to October 22 showed that of the 4,470 total confirmed Covid-19 cases in Northern Mindanao, 653 cases are from Bukidnon; 32 cases are from Camiguin; 586 cases are from Lanao del Norte; 380 cases are from Misamis Occidental; 657 cases are from Misamis Oriental; 1,343 cases are from Cagayan de Oro City; and 819 cases are from Iligan City.

"Northern Mindanao already has the highest number of positive cases sa entire Mindanao. We have overtaken Davao and we have also overtaken Zamboanga. It is alarming," Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno said.

As of October 22, Zamboanga has 3,061 Covid-19 cases; Davao Region has 4,382 cases; Soccsksargen has 2,298 cases; Caraga has 2,402 cases; and Barmm has 1,538 cases.

"We have to be very, very much concerned niining rising cases sa Northern Mindanao. Dili na ni tiaw-tiaw," Moreno said.

The mayor has also strongly encouraged the public to strictly observe the minimum public health standards in order to contain the virus from spreading.
