5 vie for Benguet State University presidency

FIVE candidates are vying for the Benguet State University's (BSU) presidency and they presented the vision, mission, goals, and objectives on Thursday, October 22.

The candidates are Dr. Jimmy Fong, Dr. Serafin Ngohayon, Dr. Joel Lubrica, Dr. Felipe Comila and Dr. Maria Luz Fang-asan.

During a live public presentation at the BSU gym in La Trinidad, the five were given 10 minutes each for their presentation and they answered questions from BSU employees, alumni and students.

Comila, during his presentation, envisioned BSU to become an international university engendering graduates to walk the intergenerational highways while caring to challenge innovation, advance technology, and facilities, revitalize administration, engender partnership, and serve to sustain intergenerational roles.

He currently works as the director for BSU's Institute of Public Administration and was the officer-in-charge vice-president for Academic Affairs and former special assistant to the University President of BSU.

Fang-asan is currently the director of Planning and Development Office and the former BSU Center for Culture and the Arts director, former chairman of Department of Extension Education and Development.

Fang-asan envisions the university to be a dynamic hub for modern science, traditional knowledge and responsive education towards sustainable development with its mission to build and propel sustainable communities through responsive education that is founded on modern science, driven by relevant innovation, and guided by cultural contexts.

Fong, currently the dean of the College of Arts and Communication at the University of the Philippines-Baguio, sees BSU as a research university with strong cultural foundations serving the new world with a mission of sustaining inclusivity, competitiveness, resiliency, cultural identity, and integrity for global relevance.

Fong is the former commissioner representing the Northern Philippines Cultural Communities and former chairman for UP-Baguio Department of Communication, College of Arts and Communication.

Lubrica, meanwhile, envisions BSU to be a model state university that exhibits vibrancy, resilience, and commitment to continual improvement and a mission to develop scientific, technological and vocational efficiency towards an accelerated national economic growth and meaningful social development.

He worked as BSU director of the Office of Student Services, director of the Office for Quality Assurance and Accreditation and the former Dean of the Graduate School.

Ngohayon, in his presentation, said BSU is set to become a premier university in Southeast Asia and a mission to develop globally competitive professionals, discover relevant scientific knowledge and share climate smart technologies that will bring about strongly-rooted, comfortable and secure Filipinos.

Ngohayon was the former president of Ifugao State College of Agriculture and Forestry and worked as OIC president of Kalinga-Apayao State College and OIC president of Quirino State College.
