300 NCR informal workers to get additional aid from DOLE

ASIDE from bicycle units, the more than 300 informal worker-beneficiaries in the National Capital Region (NCR) will be getting additional assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

In a statement, the labor department said there will be additional assistance to informal workers in the Metro Manila to help them recover from their loss of livelihood amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

"More than 320 beneficiaries will be receiving more than bicycles," said Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III.

He noted how the beneficiaries will be given bicycle units that they will use as delivery riders of DOLE partner companies, Grab and Lalamove.

The bicycle units in the NCR will also come complete with helmet, raincoat, water bottle, thermal bag, Android mobile phone, and a P5,000 load in electronic payment application.

On Monday, October 26, the DOLE is set to launch its "Freebis" or "Free Bisikleta" project, wherein it will be giving out free bicycles for livelihood activities of displaced informal sector workers.

Aside from Metro Manila, also part of the initial phase of the project are Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Bicol Region. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
