19 new deaths, over 2,000 cases in Philippines

THE Department of Health (DOH) announced Saturday, October 24, more than 2,000 new cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and 19 additional deaths.

In its 4 p.m. Saturday case bulletin, the DOH said 2,057 new infections have been recorded and this brought the total case count in the country to 367,819.

Most of the new cases were recorded in two Metro Manila cities -- Caloocan City with 102 cases and Quezon City with 96.

Also seeing high number of cases Saturday were Rizal (107), Benguet (92), and Davao City (91).

The 19 new deaths, meanwhile, brought the death toll to 6,934 fatalities.

The DOH said majority of the new deaths were recorded in Metro Manila with eight mortalities.

Three other deaths were recorded in Calabarzon and three more in Western Visayas.

As to the number of patients who have recovered from Covid-19, the DOH said 442 more recoveries have been recorded.

The total number of Covid-19 survivors now stands at 313,112.

The DOH also said that 12 laboratories in the country were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Data Repository System on October 23, 2020.

Globally, as of October 23, there have been 41,570,883 confirmed cases of Covid-19, including 1,134,940 deaths, according to the World Health Organization. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
