CEBU Sixth District Representative Emmarie "Lolypop" Ouano-Dizon distributed P2.9 million worth of cash aid and food assistance to flashflood victims in Mandaue City.

A total of 4,483 families were affected by the flashflood, which happened after the Butuanon River in Mandaue City swelled last week due to heavy rainfall.

The families were evacuated as portions of the village were flooded by up to five feet.

Based on the validated list from the Mandaue City Social Welfare and Services (CSWS), eight barangays were affected by flooding: Canduman (61 families), Casuntingan (149 families), Maguikay (63 families), Tabok (184 families), Tingub (72 families), Alang-alang (99 families), Umapad (312 families) and Paknaan (3,553 families).

Twenty houses were destroyed, 41 were partially damaged and 4,442 houses were slightly damaged.

Dizon said the P2.9 million assistance was sourced from her Assistance to Individuals in Crisis (AICS) fund.

She said they distributed the financial aid to the flood victims: P5,000 for those whose houses were destroyed, P2,500 for those with partially damaged houses, and P500 for those with slightly damaged houses.

The flood victims also received one box each of relief goods that contains five kilos of rice, 10 canned goods, five sachets of coffee, and five sachets of cereal drink.

Dizon expressed her gratitude to the newly-elected Speaker of the House, Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco, for contributing 1,000 sacks of rice.

Each family received five kilos of rice from Velasco's donation.

“I am impressed by the willingness of Speaker Velasco in extending his assistance to the flood victims in Mandaue,” Dizon said.

She added that former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano also provided food packs for the flood victims. (KFD/PR)
