ALL of the 14 crew members of MV The Good Fortune are safe after the vessel encountered engine trouble in the vicinity of Ubay, Bohol en route to Tacloban Saturday evening, Oct. 24, 2020.

The captain of MV The Good Fortune sought the help of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) after seawater started to flood the vessel.

The MV Good Fortune was located 8.5 nautical miles east of Ubay, Bohol, and 13 nautical miles west of Maasin, Southern Leyte when they sought assistance from PCG in the afternoon of Oct. 25. 2020.

It departed from Naga, Cebu at around 6 p.m. on October 24, and was bound for Tacloban.

The PCG deployed MCS-3005 from Aduana Wharf, Cebu City to conduct search and rescue operations, as well as inspection for a possible incident of an oil spill.

On the way to the site, PCG maintained active and direct communication with the vessel captain to ensure that all crew members are safe until further assistance is provided.

The PCG stations and substations in Leyte and Bohol were also alerted to prepare for possible vessel and personnel augmentation.

A report from Captain Charlie Jesus B. Solleque of MV Good Fortune said that they were able to repair the engine as they anchored in President Carlos P Garcia, Bohol.

Solleque further reported that the Coast Guard personnel from Ubay, Bohol station have boarded their vessel to check the engine.

The MV Good Fortune is now in Naval, Biliran seeking shelter while weather condition is not good and with the rough seas. (HBL with PR)
