AROUND 1,800 medical frontliners in private hospitals in Cebu City will receive the first tranche of their cash incentive from the City Government on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020.

The release was delayed for more than a month because the City was validating the list of beneficiaries.

Each medical frontliner who attends to a coronavirus disease 2019 patient is entitled to a P30,000 cash incentive, or P10,000 each for the next three months.

Mayor Edgardo Labella said the City will release P10,000 for the month of October. The remaining P20,000 is still being processed, he said.

Labella said the funds will be forwarded to the hospital management, which will distribute the cash to their medical frontliners.

The City Government allocated P54 million for this purpose. The amount was included in the second supplemental budget.

Beneficiaries are from the Chong Hua Hospital, Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital, Perpetual Succour Hospital, Cebu Velez General Hospital, Adventist Hospital Cebu (formerly Miller Hospital) and the Visayas Community Medical Center.

Meanwhile, Labella, in a press conference on Monday, Oct. 26, said he has yet to decide whether to give City Hall employees a Christmas bonus.

“Considering the pandemic, I really have to think it over if we will give additional (bonus),” the mayor said, referring to the thousands of residents who have been displaced by the ongoing health crisis.

“I hope the City Hall people will understand,” he said.

In December 2019, City Hall employees received P20,000 as their Christmas bonus.

Labella, though, assured that the employees will still receive their 13th month pay. (JJL)
