PALAY crop damage from both Tropical Storm Pepito and Typhoon Quinta have reached P39,435,550, according to reports from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.
Apalit town in Pampanga's low-lying fourth district sustained the most damage to its palay crops with P20,513,280 reported as of October 26.
Candaba town, also in the fourth district, sustained P13,852,608.
Another town in the fourth district with reported crop damages includes San Simon with P1,346,560.
Santa Rita town in the second district reported P2,610,000 worth of damage to its palay crops. Nearby Guagua town also reported P90,404 worth of damage.
In the first district, the town of Magalang reported P332,658.
Local officials project that the current total may still rise as more reports come in from the other towns.
The flooding and inclement weather had come in at a time when local farmers are about to harvest their crops for the end of the current wet cropping season.
It is not yet clear if the damages are significant to offset the production targets for Pampanga.
According to the latest report of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, 49 barangays in Pampanga are still in floodwaters. These include two barangays in Apalit, one in Candaba, 20 in Macabebe, 18 in Masantol and one in San Simon.
Some 25,270 families or 118,064 persons are affected by the flooding in Macabebe and Masantol towns.
