Anti-crime group officer nabbed for gunrunning in Isabela

AN OFFICER of anti-crime group Task Force Kasanag (TFK) was arrested in La Castellena by operatives of the Bacolod-based Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in a buy-bust operation on October 27 for alleged gunrunning activities.

In a report on Oplan Paglalansag Omega, Police Chief Master Sergeant Ramiro Gocotano identified the suspect as Joevel Enegreo Sumugat, who claimed to be an intelligence officer of Negros Island Region Anti-Crime Group.

Sumugat, monitoring officer of TFK, was arrested by CIDG operatives for violation of Republic Act 10591, also known as Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition, in Barangay Robles, La Castellana.

Seized from Sumugat were KG-9 caliber .9mm Luger with two magazines containing five ammunition, a gun silencer, P100 in buy-bust money and 42 pieces of boodle money in different denominations.

Gocotano said they also recovered several identification cards with the name of Sumugat, including that of TFK, Negros Island Region Anti-Crime Group, Kabayan Action Group and Guardians.

Sumugat failed to present documents authorizing him to possess the confiscated gun, he said.

Meanwhile, the same operatives under the Bacolod City Field Unit also led by Gocotano and under the supervision of Police Major Mark Lester Eteroza also apprehended Renon Taclobos in another operation in the same place.

The apprehension of Taclobos, who is a resident of Purok Libas, Barangay Delicioso, Ilog, yielded an Uzi sub machine gun pistol with a magazine containing five live ammunition, P100 in buy-bust money and 32 pieces of boodle money in different denominations.

Sumugat and Taclobos are both newly-identified members of "Tonggo Group" that is involved in gunrunning activities in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental, Gocotano said.
