United City, Kaya clinch opening wins in PFL

MIKE Ott scored United City Football Club (UCFC) inaugural goal in the 24th minute for a 1-nil result against Azkals Development Team last Wednesday, October 28, in the opener of the Philippines Football League (PFL) Season 2020 at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

This is Ott's first goal since UCFC took over the management from the defunct Ceres-Negros FC. After a tough start by UCFC against the young prospects of the national team, OJ Porteria orchestrated the offensive flow alongside Benvienido Marañon, skipper Stephan Schrock, and Manny Ott -- who successfully sent a perfect pass to his younger brother, Mike, for the goal.

For UCFC Coach Frank, the squad wasn't able to get the full rhythm of the game due to a long break. "The preparation wasn't good enough to bring the players in top form and shape physically and mentally," he said. "But a win is still a win."

When asked what UCFC fans can expect from the team on the next match, the Victorias City-hailed mentor assured that they will give the fans quality football in the last remaining matches.

"We need to work hard to keep the team in top shape and enough recovery to sustain the winning tradition," he added.

Meanwhile, Kaya FC-Iloilo also shared the top spot with UCFC after beating debuting Maharlika-Manila, 1-0 behind the lone goal from San Carlos City-native Jayson Panhay in the 29th minute.
