ALOCASIAS, (Elephant Ear) or "Badiang," has now become a view in some of the houses of prominent personalities in the Philippines because of its huge heart-shaped leaves that help embellish a part of one's dwellings.

Such tropical plants can just be found sprouting elsewhere especially in the highlands where ordinary individuals were unmindful of its presence.

Badiang has become viral on social media when prominent personalities like Jinkee Pacquiao showcased their plant collection that include huge Badiang plants that uniquely adorned their houses.

Having such Badiang plant in Jinkee's house has earned her a moniker as "Plantita of the Year."

It was told that she bought her Badiang plant for more or less P30,000.

Television personality Gretchen Fullido also has her Badiang plants as an indoor adornment in her house.

In Barangays Granada and Alangilan in Bacolod City, Badiang plants are just an ordinary sight in the upland, which can be found elsewhere with fewer people caring about its existence.

The heart-shaped leaves are lovely when it super-imposes itself from other plants and greenery.

Badiang's height reaches 10 feet or three meters tall. The leaves may grow or reach eight feet or 2.5 meters. These plants grow well in acidic, sandy, clay, or earthlike soils.

Its juice, however, can irritate the human skin. Bernadette, one of the locals, shared that Badiang could not be sprinkled with tap water. It grows best with rainwater.

They were even surprised to learn that prominent personalities highlighted Badiang as among the ornaments that helped beautify their homes.

We have so many Badiangs growing in our place. But it's good that other people appreciate it too.

Meanwhile, the DENR will penalize those who will be caught uprooting wild plants including the famous Badiang.
