Village watchman hurt in stabbing incident

A VILLAGE watchman was injured after he was stabbed at the guard house of Providence Negros Subdivision, Barangay Granada, Bacolod City Thursday evening, October 29.

Police identified the victim as Ereneo Laurilla, a resident of Hacienda Consolacion, Barangay Granada.

Police Lieutenant Melchor Tolentino, chief of Police Station 5, said Laurilla and his companion, Reylan Silvino, 25, of Purok 5A, Barangay Alangilan, both members of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT), were conducting a visibility patrol at Providence Negros Subdivision around 9:30 p.m.

He said when Laurilla tried to approach Juan Carlos Eizpuru, who has a mental illness and resident of said subdivision, the latter attacked him using a kitchen knife.

He said Laurilla was hit on his chest and when Silvino saw him wounded, Silvino also shot Eizpuru on his stomach.

Laurilla and Eizpuru were brought to a hospital and is now in stable condition, while Silvino voluntarily surrendered to Police Station 5.

Police recovered from scene of the crime a kitchen knife and an improvised firearm.

Tolentino said Silvino is detained at station and he will be charged with frustrated homicide and violation of Republic Act 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

He said Laurilla can also file frustrated homicide against Eizpuru.
