BSU set to name next president

BENGUET State University (BSU) is set to name its next president soon.

After the presentation of the five candidates for Benguet State University (BSU) presidency, BSU Officer-In-Charge Director and Commission on Higher Education–Cordillera Administrative Region (Ched-CAR) Director Dr. Danilo Bose said the next president will be announced soon.

Bose added the next president must be willing to do his best as there are a lot of challenges seen in the operations of BSU. He must work hand-in-hand with the community and is willing to lead BSU to a greater height.

“For the academic community, please set aside your personal interest. Please work hand-in-hand with all your heart and energy to the next elected president, for the betterment of the BSU,” he said.

The search committee for the next BSU president is chaired by lawyer Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro, executive director of Ched Central Office, together with Dr. Cecilia N. Gascon, president of Bulacan State University, PASUC Representative; Dr. Jimmy Catanes, Ched Representative; lawyer Leonardo Lee Lawana, private sector representative; and Professor Vicente G. Panagan, Jr., academic sector representative.

Last week, the five candidates presented their vision, mission and goals during a public forum at the University Gym. Representatives from the BSU students, BSU administration, BSU faculty and BSU Alumni Association were also assigned to ask questions to the candidates.

BSU Alumni and Agriculture Secretary William Dar said the next president should be someone who is always a leader that has the vision to innovate.

“[Someone] who has some foresight. Hindi iyong conventional, hindi iyong puwede na ito. He has to challenge himself and the whole university,” says Dar, who was in Atok, Benguet on Thursday, October 29, 2020, to launch a Farm-to-Market Road project.

Vying for BSU presidency are Dr. Jimmy Fong, Dr. Serafin Ngohayon, Dr. Joel Lubrica, Dr. Felipe Comila and Dr. Maria Luz Fang-asan.
